Want, Buy, Live
The purpose of this project is disclosing differences and similarities between two shopping spaces in Houston: Rice Village and Chinatown. It compares signage and letterforms in the environment. In the analysis, I expected a large contrast in form between each location because of the distinct cultural differences and customer demographic.
However, I was surprised to find less distinction and, in fact, many similarities in the vocabulary of form, production, and color. The documentation booklet, Letters Made with Desire, refers to selecting the shopping center sites for the study and relating the book to a broader cultural desire for consumption.
